Called to the Bar of Ontario in 1980, Mr. Cochrane practised civil litigation for five years before joining the Ministry of the Attorney Geeral of Ontario, Policy Development Division. While with the Ministry, he was Chir of the Attorney General’s Advisory Committee on Class Action Reform, whose recommendations from the basis of Ontario’s Class Proceedings Act, 1992 <\/em>and the Law Society Amendment Act (Class Proceedings Funding)<\/em>, 1992.<\/p>\n
In addition to being a lecturer at the University of Ottawa Law School of Law, Mr. Cochrane was a seminar leader in Civil Procedure at the Law Society of Upper Canada Bar Admission Course for several years. He has lectured at numerous conferences on the subject of class actions and was Chair of the Law Society of Upper Canada’s first Continuing Legal Education Conference on Class Actions held in Toronto in April, 1992. He was Ontario’s Commissioner to the Uniform Law Conference of Canada from 1986 to 1990, while the class action reform was being considered by the conference as a model law for Canada.<\/p>\n
Mr. Cochrane is now with the law firm of Scott & Aylen (Toronto) and specializes in civil litigation and the mediation of multi-party disputes. He is currently the Chair of the Task Force on the Ontario Environmental Bill of Rights. He is also the author of two books on family law, The Everyday Guide to Canadian Family Law<\/em> and Family Law in Ontario: A practical Guide for Lawyers and Law Clerks<\/em>.<\/p>\n
